Humanity's sociability made the void of the stars all the more awful. The tile containing the Beacon can be attacked and destroyed by enemy units. This tile becomes impassable to both military and civilian units. The Beacon must be built on an owned tile within 5 distance of the city constructing it. Pillaging, quests and the Siphon Energy covert operation are the only way to earn energy after activation. Energy income does not lower the number of turns. Once activated, it takes 45 turns to make contact (This changes based on game speed). Switching the city production away from the Beacon during construction will erase all progress. It costs 1000 Energy to activate, and "will consume all surplus Energy each turn it is active." However, this effectively sets the Energy per turn to zero, so if the Energy per turn is currently negative, it will be set to zero, a significant advantage. Once the Beacon is built, it must be activated. The Beacon can be built after the Decode Signal Project is completed. Once activated and operating, this structure will trigger the Contact Victory. It will be interesting to see how well it plays out in a 4X game, but from how it sounds, it sounds great! Also, the air itself is poisonous and will kill off your units if you won't have the right tech. Like some guy tried to kill one in the first handful of turns and the thing would one-shot kill the basic infantry squads. If they cross through your settlement, they will ravage the tiles and carry on. But then you acquire resources and ♥♥♥♥, then get strong enough to finally kick the creature's ass. Gives a real sense of you, well, being worthless. No doubt there will be complaints about it (in this era of gaming, if you can't win by slamming your face into your keyboard, game must be "broken"), but personally I love this idea! Reminds me of those wandering elites in lowbie areas in World of Warcraft, for those who played it. I read somewhere that there are these giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worms (Dune/Tremors) that you basically cannot kill in the early game.
